So help me, you can’t make up how mean-spirited and ignorant politics are here in North Carolina. Every Boss Hogg- or Willie Stark-like stereotype you’ve even encountered is untrue because it is chaste; the truth is uglier, more rotten, more cynical.
The latest? The Godly were summoned to the state capital yesterday to grunt and bleat their support for HB-2, and treated to this imperishable urging from the GOP nominee for Attorney General:
State Sen. Buck Newton urged the crowd to “tell your friends and family who had to work today what this is all about and how hard we must fight to keep our state straight.”
Honestly, I marvel some days. The Republicans aren’t even part of the decent, educated world any more.
