This is from a long piece in Cosmopolitan about a Virginia Tech student, apparently infatuated with a fellow female classmate, who ended-up killing her. What happened that night isn’t really certain, but it appears to have entailed an attempted homosexual seduction, probably spurned, layered on top of a conservative Baptist background.
That quote has, to my ears, the ring of truth; anybody who has sat through many Baptist sermons knows that shaming people into submission, utterly destroying their self-respect, is how they control people.
