Another transfusion case

The parents of an Australian boy who desperately needs a liver transplant are refusing permission for necessary blood transfusions during the surgery.

A HOSPITAL has taken the extraordinary step of asking a court to allow a boy to be given a blood transfusion during a liver transplant, after his Jehovah’s Witness parents refused consent.

The boy, “J,” aged seven, has been on the liver-transplant list for a year and his parents want him to have the operation, but say giving him blood is against their religious beliefs.

Because that’s how they read the Bible, and the Bible is Inerrant, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. How the court will rule is anybody’s guess. They are not so in thrall to religion in Australia as here in the United States, however, so perhaps the boy will get lucky.
