More bad theater

Donald Trump just completed remarks addressing the situation with Iran and — What do you know? — it was little more than a poorly-delivered stump speech.

No mention of an imminent attack

In the days following the Soleimani hit, administration spokespeople recurred frequently to the claim of an imminent threat. Well … Ok. Though Soleimani was an officer of a sovereign state with which we are not at war, I’m just fine with attacking him if it saves American lives. But the administration has stopped talking about the imminent threat, and has never produced any evidence of a planned attack then afoot. Nothing. The updated rationale for killing an officer of a sovereign state appears to be that he was … a really bad dude.

I have to believe the hit — and all its nerve-wracking consequences — was never about short-circuiting a threat; it was theater meant to be a distraction from Trump’s impeachment woes.

Lies for the uninformed

For some reason, The Donald digressed into an attack upon the Obama administration and that money conveyed to Iran in cash, approximately $1.7-billion. That was Iran’s money, paid to the United States for arms that were never delivered; the 1979 hostage seizure interrupted the deal. Again: It was Iran’s money, frozen by the Carter administration in consequence of events. Surely, Trump has been told this. He simply keeps repeating the lie because he knows that FOX viewers will never be caught dead reading the New York Times or watching CNN or paying attention to any news outlet that might educate them.

And, besides, giving our enemy a big pile of cash is exactly the sort of thing you’d expect a nigra moozlim librul(!!) to do; it plays well to the bigotry and racism of Trump’s base.

Bah.
