A theologian upholds something I’ve said repeatedly over the years: Without Adam and Eve, the Christian narrative fails.

The only answer left, an answer fraught with theological moment, is that in history evil ruptured God’s good creation; that evil was the rebellion of a historical Adam, an event wondrously rescinded by the atoning work of a historical Jesus. Current scientific orthodoxy may judge this position impossible, but it is the only possible position for theological orthodoxy.

And since there is no question whatever — None — that Adam and Eve are make-believe … that’s that.

In a bid to obstruct same-sex marriages, a just-introduced Michigan bill would require that all marriage certificates be signed by a clergyman.

Republican Representative Todd Courser from Lapeer County says one of the bills would require that a clergy member sign any marriage certificate in Michigan.

“I’m completely traditional marriage – I believe that the traditional marriage is really God’s model for marriage.

One wonders how a man so ignorant of American history — Does he actually not know that this is by Constitutional design a secular state? — could get elected to any position of responsibility. The explanation of it, I suppose, is that most Americans, or Michiganders at least, don’t know very much about the country they live in, either.

Yup. As I’ve shown with the Propaganda Underground posts, the Right has been dining on apocalyptic sewage for a long time. The events in Charleston, and the well-deserved blowback, might serve to inhibit the rhetoric for a while but, if it does at all, I doubt it will last for long; the insecure losers who chow down on that stuff will find other dealers.

The entire lunatic Right has been using militaristic, over-the-top rhetoric and imagery for a long time.

Golly — is that kind of antisocial?

And, once again, what healthy man puts himself in this picture? It’s catnip for the unhinged.

Grievance-mongering to the damaged, the insecure, the troubled is big business.
