Quote for the day

And so, in my heart, I’m troubled. And I’m worried about the way faith is cynically used by some to serve hate, fear, racism and greed.

Reverend William Barber

Faith has always been the instrument of hate, fear, racism and greed, and always will be — but kudos to Barber for acknowledging that use today. And notice this: The sermon that most comports with Jesus’ ideals would never have been welcomed by the party that loudly claims him.

Just the facts

Now that the conventions are over, you’re probably asking yourself something like, What else do I need to know to reach an informed decision about how I should cast my vote?

Have you thought about asking The Google Machine — Even more accurate than the Oracle of Delphi! — whether or not Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump is The Antichrist?

Hillary:

Apparently, the devout have suspected for a long time that she might be The Antichrist.

Donald:

It appears that concern that Trump might be The Antichrist has abated of late, probably due to the widespread realization that he’s nothing but another theatrical loudmouth, like comfortable ol’ Pastor Bubba.

Dismal theology-related tweet of the day

Never forget: Y’all are no damn good. And if you don’t spend your days squirming with guilt and shame, you’re even worse than that.

Obama at the DNC

OK, I think Obama went too far when he said Hillary Clinton is the most qualified person to ever run for President, but this is an outstanding speech. And his dismissal of The Donald is excellent.

Quote for the day

If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favourable reference to the devil in the House of Commons.

Winston Churchill

I guess I feel about Donald Trump as Churchill did about Hitler: There is no more important public business than defeating him, and if I have to make common cause with somebody I despise in order to help defeat Trump … so be it. Trump is mad and an actual existential threat to the country; Hillary is merely a venal bureaucratic hack.
