Civil Commotion is about whatever happens to interest me most on any particular day, though what generally interests me the most is the malign and growing influence of religious fundamentalism on our public life, and its implications for education, our national competitiveness, and our military security.
By way of introduction, I was educated at Michigan Tech, earning a B.S. degree in Geological Engineering in 1978, and a second B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, with a minor concentration in soil mechanics, in 1979. I am the geotechnical engineer-of-record for approximately 3000 constructed projects high rise office buildings, earth-fill dams, launch pad facilities at Kennedy Space Center, still-classified Star Wars-related structures, sports arenas, civil defense ‘lifeline’ structures, bridges, on and on representing several billion dollars of capital investment.
Since 2000 I have worked as a freelance writer and editor. Contact information is in the sidebar.
