Mohler on marriage

The prospect of a Supreme Court decision in favor of same-sex marriage is so distressing to the Southern Baptists that they are forgetting themselves and speaking frankly.

The biblical view of marriage is clear in the order of the natural world, Mohler said, since even societies outside the Judeo-Christian tradition have understood marriage is for procreation and should be an honored part of civilization.

“We didn’t come up with that in the 1950s,” he said. “I would argue we didn’t come up with that in Western civilization at all, that it was actually written in nature by the creator who made it.”

When you add that to Mohler’s objections to the use of contraception, and his insistence that good, decent, godly people are always prepared to betray their family and friends on command — like Abraham — you have the picture: Marriage is a cosmic license for sexual intercourse, in order to produce li’l Baptists — and that’s all.

You have, too, the reason that family and social pathologies are so acute throughout the Southern Baptist south.
