Quote for the day

I spent over two years reading theology, beginning with scripture and progressing through “folk theology”, as exemplified by C. S. Lewis, to the “sophisticated” lucubrations of people like Alvin Plantinga and David Bentley Hart. And the deeper you dig, the more bullshit you find. It’s excreta all the way down.

Jerry Coyne

All theology fails on its premises. ALL. If you can’t prove we have an Invisible Friend, that Jesus ever existed, that the Bible or the Quran or some other holy book actually enjoys the imprimatur of your preferred Invisible Friend, then you have absolutely no right to expect to be taken seriously when you go around blabbering about “god wants this” or “god says that” or “I’m praying for you” et cetera, et cetera. Religion is nothing but fairy castles in the air, and the clergy are the most intellectually corrupt class of men in society.

Establish your premises, or don’t bother people.
