The Donald awakened this morning in an even grumpier mood than usual. Today, he tweeted that transgenders are unwelcome in the military and, presumably, are about to be summarily discharged; that Lisa Murkowski let down the Good Ol’ U.S. of A. by voting against debate on the Senate’s health care bills; and that Jeff Sessions has much to do with our urgent national need to drain the swamp.
Well. I’ll grant that it’s annoying to have a president who behaves this way, but given his and the Republican Party’s ambitions, I think it’s a good thing.
-
He is destroying his relationship with the Republican Party, which will almost certainly be called upon within the next few months to judge whether or not he ought to remain in office.
-
There is absolutely no way on earth that Jeff Sessions is going to tell the Justice Department to take it easy in its investigation of the president.
-
And he has made enemies of important, well-regarded Republican Senators — Lisa Murkowski and, with the transgender policy shift, John McCain.
We’re approaching the point where it hardly matters whether Trump is actually guilty of cooperating with a hostile foreign power to subvert the election; everybody sane is so sick of him that he’ll be convicted just to be rid of him.
