Meet America, Mr. Bannon

As Americans watched agape last week while Donald Trump claimed he won the popular vote, that the inauguration crowd was the largest ever, and disgraced himself at CIA headquarters, presidential advisor Steve Bannon tried to redirect attention to the incorrigible wickedness of the press.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while,” Mr. Bannon said in an interview on Wednesday.

“I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

That was the day before the #MuslimBan ignited protests across the country.

Ho-ho — who lives in an out-of-touch bubble?

Since there has been hardly anything on the news all weekend but images of huge crowds resisting the poorly-considered and –drafted immigration ban, and you can’t pick-up a newspaper without encountering (entirely reasonable) speculation that Fearless Leader is mentally ill, I’m guessing we’re in for another long week of drama.

Donald Trump is wildly, grossly, unfit for the presidency; that was clear to a majority of us before the election and, now, even some evangelicals must be considering the possibility that they got snookered by ol’ Beezlebub, again.*

America is sound. The American people are sound. They understand and will fight for American ideals, and want none of the racist, Christian Nationalist, backward-looking fantasies of such as Trump and Bannon. It is they who don’t understand this country.
