Donald Trump is reportedly looking for top-secret clearances for his children, a sign that rather than entering the Oval Office with an eye for avoiding conflicts of interest he’s preparing to rush headlong into a minefield of them.
The president-elect has begun asking how he could secure high level clearances for Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr., his three adult children with first wife Ivana, as well as for Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner, according to CNN and CBS.
CNN and CBS are serious news outlets (unlike Breitbart, say) and, right or wrong, wouldn’t have gone with the story unless they at least believed they had it right.
I hope they’re wrong. But the bald fact that the story is at least plausible ought to alert us to how the cataracts of lunacies associated with Trump have stunned our sense of how normal and responsible people ought to behave. Bill Clinton coarsened our public life, and Trump is turning it into a madhouse.
