Quote for the day

Inexplicably, Donald Trump has got something right.

Over and over again courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging one’s affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everybody does so, rich or poor; and all do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more than the law demands: taxes are enforced exactions, not voluntary contributions. To demand more in the name of morals is mere cant.

Judge Learned Hand, U.S. Supreme Court

The most important thing to understand is the egregious favoritism toward the wealthy that is built into the tax code — and anybody who imagines Donald Trump is going to change that is out of his mind.

The genius of our ruling class is that it has kept a majority of the people from ever questioning the inequity of a system where most people drudge along, paying heavy taxes for which they get nothing in return.

Gore Vidal

We need a wide-ranging overhaul of the tax sytem, and the immigration system, and neither is going to happen with the Republicans in the White House or in control of either house of Congress.
