Be true to your cult, ctd

John Piper deserves credit for at least this: He doesn’t shy away from the repellent elements of Christian teaching.

Do I love the glory of God more than my own earthly pleasures? That is the crucial question. Is the glory of God a greater pleasure to me than the pleasures that marriage offers?

Always remember: Y’all are no damn good. And if your wedding vows are more important to you than the pleasure of The Invisible Wizard, you are really no damn good.

I believe, contrarily, that anybody who thinks that pleasing an Invisible Friend is more important than his or her wedding vows is a damn fool who isn’t actually married at all, though that is what every Holy Man in Christendom demands — that you never be married.

What they actually believe in is clergy-supervised animal husbandry, a cosmic grant of permission for sexual intercourse in order to procreate and grow the cult. They affirmatively condemn the mutual loyalty and shared ambitions that make a relationship a marriage, because those things undermine the supremacy of the cult in the member’s life.

‘Family values’ is a marketing lie — Period.
