It cannot be said too often: EVERY social and family pathology is most acute in the south, because that is where the churches are strongest. This is not an accident, this is not an unhappy and meaningless coincidence; it is the direct consequence of a belief system that can thrive only where people are ignorant and debased as the ordinary condition of life.
