I have finally accepted what I have long been reluctant to accept: These characters don’t actually have thoughts. Not ever. What they have in their heads is not even equipment for thought, but just a huge catalog of indexed clichés for every occasion, lines to be mindlessly uttered. If the cliché conflicts with something they said just 10-seconds ago, or makes no sense whatever — no problem! They don’t possess the intellectual capacity for recognizing meaninglessness or conflict in the first place.
