I rejoice whenever I encounter a passage like the one I’ve highlighted, because for years I was a skeptical good sport who could be dragged to church. Religion is predatory; it exploits the evil of unreasoning belief, and feeds on the insecure and the damaged. It can thrive only where there is sickness and decadence.
