Muslims Are People Too

So, what’s my point? Very simply, there are Muslims who need Jesus right on our doorstep. We need to reach out to them. Things might be a little awkward at first, but despite their attachment to a belief system we strongly reject, our common humanity and a little respect and sensitivity can get the ball rolling. I know most readers will lack my Middle Eastern experience. Never mind. Approaching a Muslim with a smile, asking how long they’ve been here and how they’re settling in, would be a good way to start.

The condescension is staggering.

Joe, I, too, walked in the same shoes. This is truly the greatest regret I have in all my time in ministry. I treated my family shabbily thinking all the time that “I was putting God first.”

§372   Since all instincts are unintelligent, utility cannot represent a standpoint as far as they are concerned. Every instinct, when it is active, sacrifices strength and other instincts into the bargain: in the end it is stemmed, otherwise it would be the end of everything owing to the waste it would bring about. Thus: that which is “unegoistic”, self-sacrificing and imprudent is nothing in particular — it is common to all the instincts; they do not consider the welfare of the whole ego (because they simply do not think), they act counter to our interests, against the ego: and often for the ego — innocent in both cases!

Detroit tackles mass scrap tire piles

One day, under the spring sky, the tires just arrived.

They weren’t there in the morning. By the time neighbors returned to work that May afternoon, though, dozens of tires had materialized at an abandoned home on Detroit’s east side. Whoever did it was in no hurry. Nor did they seem worried about being caught, neighbors said: About 300 were neatly stacked at the curb and inside the front room.
