Truly, the mind boggles at what these guys get away with. Seriously. Boggles.

I mean … is there even one Holy Man in all of Christendom who would deny that the Inerrant Bible is God’s message to us about His wishes? Or, that in the days when the sacred texts were rare, and few could read, the Bible was read aloud from the pulpit? How, and why, then, would Our Invisible Friend, who fervently desires that we understand Him, produce a text which isn’t immediately accessible to some poor exhausted schmuck sitting in the pews? Surely that’s a reasonable expectation?

Think about that — really think about that. If what they claim about the Bible is true, John Piper et. al. shouldn’t be needed; the Bible should be immediately comprehensible by anybody.

Inerrancy is a marketing lie whose purpose is to aggrandize the Holy Men. Period. And shame on any damn fool who falls for it.

Charles Pierce reprises a familiar theme hereabouts.

It’s easy to back a guy [Trump] whose demonstrations of faith and devotion to the Bible are so obviously contrived when you don’t actually care about any of that. That’s also how you back slashing taxes on the rich and deporting 11 million people, in many cases tearing parents away from their children. (You know, the kind of stuff Jesus got behind.) Trump appeals to Evangelicals across the country not as a man of God, but as someone who will restore the old order of things. And that’s what they’ve always been looking for.
