Government discharging immigrant soldiers?

New York Magazine has just published an item that I’m hoping is #FakeNews.

In recent weeks, hundreds of foreign-born Army recruits have been abruptly cut loose by the military, exposing some to possible deportation, the Washington Post reports.

The move has led to panic among immigrant recruits, who enlisted with the understanding that their service would lead to an expedited path to citizenship. Many of them possess rare and valuable skills, including knowledge of highly sought-after foreign languages and medical expertise. Now, after waiting years in some cases to join the program, they’ve been discarded.

It will be generations, if ever, before America is again regarded with anything but contempt. THANKS!, Values Voters!

Dismal theology-related tweet for the day

Christian service members who openly profess and support the rights of Muslims, Buddhists, and all other anti-Christian worldviews to practice their religions — because the language in the Constitution permits — are grossly in error, and deceived.

Captain Sonny Hernandez, Air Force Chaplain

Does it even need to be said that this man shouldn’t be wearing the uniform of the United States, that he exhibits affirmative hostility to this country’s ideals? He’s a good example of why protection of religious liberty mustn’t ever be entrusted to True Believers.

I am certain we are not even close to the end of stuff like this, however. The devout are going to get worse as their superstitions fade into irrelevance and they find themselves at the margins of our public life.

Former North Carolina Pastor Sentenced in Sex Abuse Case

A former pastor in North Carolina has been sentenced to 30 days in jail after admitting to sexually abusing a minor in 2002.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports 49-year-old Eric Dave Jones of Bryson City pleaded guilty in Haywood County Superior Court to indecent liberties with a child.

[ … ]

The judgment said Jones began abusing the child when the victim was 9 years old.

I know: I don’t know all the facts, extenuating circumstances, et cetera, et cetera. But 30-days for molesting a 9-year old? Seriously? In even an environment where Holy Men are demiroyalty, that seems indefensibly lenient to me.
