The Granville County sheriff has been indicted for plotting to kill a deputy who had a recording of the sheriff using a racial slur.

Granville County Sheriff Brindell Wilkins is accused of urging someone to kill a deputy he thought was about to expose his alleged use of racially offensive language.

Wilkins was indicted Monday on two counts of obstruction of justice, prompting county leaders to call an emergency meeting for Tuesday morning.

According to the grand jury indictment, Wilkins both withheld knowledge of a threat against Deputy Joshua Freeman and encouraged another person to “take care of it” saying, “the only way you gonna stop him is kill him.”

The sheriff is innocent until proven guilty, et cetera, et cetera, but race is an especially sensitive issue in Granville County; the county seat is the scene of Blood Done Signed My Name, the infamous case of the public killing of a black military veteran just a few decades ago.

There is a kernel of truth in this: The decent, educated, civilized world will be defending itself against the ignorance and malice of the Abrahamic faiths for a long, long, time to come. Mohler fails, of course, to recognize that he is a combatant for the Dark Side. There is nothing — nothing — to admire in the teaching that Abraham was a great man because he was willing to betray his son as a sign of obedience, and the doctrine of Original Sin is degrading make-believe. Revelation is not a sign of superior knowledge; it is a symptom of delusion.

Alber the Pious is merely acknowledging that the other nutjobs aren’t going to go away anytime soon.

We need to take a deep breath and recognize that a country that elects Donald Trump is already in serious trouble.

The best job in decades? Seriously? He is on the cusp of reversing 10-years of uninterrupted economic growth, his trade wars are ravaging farm country, the number of uninsured Americans has gone up for the first time in 5-years, the deficit is more than $1-Trillion dollars, he has upended traditional alliances so badly that we’ve got no friends but dictators, illegal immigration is up, every sentient adult in the universe is blinded by the incandescent hypocrisy of his evangelical base and he, personally, is a global laughingstock. I will be dead before anybody, anywhere, ever again accepts America’s promises.

There is only one good thing that can be said for Donald Trump — only one: He is the dung-beetle that rolled-up the GOP, destroying it.
