{"id":9837,"date":"2019-02-28T10:47:14","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T15:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=9837"},"modified":"2019-02-28T10:47:14","modified_gmt":"2019-02-28T15:47:14","slug":"a-win-for-the-oxford-comma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=9837","title":{"rendered":"A win for the &#8220;Oxford comma&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Oxford comma is the one that follows the next-to-last item in a list, e.g., &#8220;I went to the bookstore, the deli, and the doctor.&#8221;  The comma following &#8220;deli&#8221; is the Oxford comma, and most of us are taught in grade school that we shouldn&#8217;t use it, that we should write &#8220;I went to the bookstore, the deli and the doctor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What do you know?  An American court has held in <a href=\"https:\/\/thewritelife.com\/is-the-oxford-comma-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">favor of the comma<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>That\u2019s because an appellate court recently ruled in favor of Maine dairy drivers in a labor dispute that hinged on the oft-debated piece of punctuation.<\/p>\n<p>For anyone who\u2019s ever wondered what all the fuss is about over Oxford commas, the circuit judge\u2019s opinion says it all: \u201cFor want of a comma, we have this case.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I almost always use an Oxford comma.
