YOu know, the one that goes across the country. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/KD0FagHJUN\">https:\/\/t.co\/KD0FagHJUN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Dee Parsons (@wartwatch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wartwatch\/status\/1041789023952494594?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 17, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>If this is I-40 &#8212; and I&#8217;ve no reason to doubt it &#8212; it is also an egregious engineering design failure.<\/p>\n<p>The rationale for the construction of the Interstate Highway System is national defense, to enable rapid transport of troops and supplies from one part of the country to another &#8212; and they are designed to be passable without regard to transient weather events.<\/p>\n<p>What has happened, probably, is that it <i>was<\/i> designed correctly decades ago, and then construction along the Interstate corridor proceeded without consideration of its effects upon the highway and without objection from the feds.  Now, we have a highway system that can no longer be relied upon to serve its original purpose.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Folks-this is I-40.
