{"id":8091,"date":"2018-05-31T11:56:13","date_gmt":"2018-05-31T15:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=8091"},"modified":"2018-05-31T12:11:38","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T16:11:38","slug":"too-catholic-artwork","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=8091","title":{"rendered":"Too-Catholic artwork"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apparently, a 7-foot tall, hand-carved, wooden statue of Jesus will soon be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/national\/baptist-church-removing-jesus-statue-it-deems-too-catholic-\" target=\"_blank\">in the dumpster<\/a> behind Red Bank Baptist Church in Lexington, South Carolina, because it&#8217;s too Catholic-looking for that Godly congregation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A Baptist church in South Carolina plans to remove a hand-carved statue of Jesus Christ because some congregants believe it&#8217;s too &#8220;Catholic&#8221; for their place of worship.<\/p>\n<p>The hand-carved, 7-foot (2-meter) statue and accompanying reliefs depicting scenes from Christ&#8217;s life have been displayed outside Red Bank Baptist Church in Lexington for a decade.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The artist has declined to participate in the removal or take it back, and so the statue will be destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Well &#8230; ho-hum.<\/p>\n<p>If the congregants are feeling ambitious, I can suggest a few more eyesores they might want to consign to the landfill.<\/p>\n<p><center><img src=\"http:\/\/www.BobFelton.com\/images\/praying_hands.jpg\" width=550><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The garish hands that decorate Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma, for instance.<\/p>\n<p>And, there remains the problem of the embarrassing stained glass images of Paige Patterson and Paul Pressler at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
