{"id":6700,"date":"2017-09-03T19:53:03","date_gmt":"2017-09-03T23:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=6700"},"modified":"2017-09-03T20:04:45","modified_gmt":"2017-09-04T00:04:45","slug":"signs-of-the-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=6700","title":{"rendered":"Signs of the times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tomorrow will be the 50-somethingth Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk, the one day a year when pedestrians are permitted onto the 6-mile long span between Michigan&#8217;s upper&#8211; and lower peninsulas.<\/p>\n<p>Ordinarily, the north&#8211; or south-bound lane is closed, and pedestrians can walk across the bridge.  I&#8217;ve never done it, but since the span is about 200-feet above the straits, I&#8217;m sure the view is spectacular.<\/p>\n<p>This year, acknowledging the increasing popularity of using a car to mow down pedestrians, the Michigan State Police and the Department of Homeland Security insisted that <i>all<\/i> traffic had to be banned during the walk.
