{"id":6686,"date":"2017-08-30T12:48:37","date_gmt":"2017-08-30T16:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=6686"},"modified":"2017-08-30T12:48:37","modified_gmt":"2017-08-30T16:48:37","slug":"uplifting-theology-related-tweet-for-the-day-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=6686","title":{"rendered":"Uplifting theology-related tweet for the day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-partner=\"tweetdeck\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Evangelicals&#39; &#39;Nashville Statement&#39; denouncing same-sex marriage is rebuked by city&#39;s mayor <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wKCLbH1oZq\">https:\/\/t.co\/wKCLbH1oZq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bob Felton (@BobFelton) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BobFelton\/status\/902930276220854272\">August 30, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>There is only one good thing about the Nashville Statement, and very few people are likely to get the benefit: Go looking for the <i>premises<\/i>, for the <i>facts<\/i>, for the <i>justification<\/i> of its myriad claims, and the thoughtful person will inevitably recognize how intellectually empty and intellectually corrupt Christian theology actually is.<\/p>\n<p>After 2000-years and Niagaras of bloodshed, Christian theologians have failed to prove that god exists, that Jesus was a historical figure, that the Bible enjoys the imprimatur of those beings they can&#8217;t prove exist or ever existed, or even make a convincing argument &#8212; in view of the Bible&#8217;s preposterous claims &#8212; that the Bible wasn&#8217;t written by the first-century analog of a bunch of drunk college boys out to have some fun with the rubes.  And, yet, they propose to rely upon it to justify constricting their neighbor&#8217;s Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s tempting to say, &#8220;Oh, well, Mohler &#8230; that crowd, they&#8217;re stupid.&#8221;  There is more at work here than plain-vanilla stupidity.
