{"id":6025,"date":"2017-04-24T12:12:52","date_gmt":"2017-04-24T16:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=6025"},"modified":"2017-04-24T12:12:52","modified_gmt":"2017-04-24T16:12:52","slug":"tabloid-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=6025","title":{"rendered":"Tabloid Nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the Trump administration careers toward its 100<sup>th<\/sup>-day of governance &#8212; an informal benchmark established by Franklin Delano Roosevelt&#8217;s hyperactive ascension to office during the Great Depression &#8212; the agenda includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>A new tax plan<\/p>\n<li>\n<p>Revival of whatever the president intends for the Affordable Care Act<\/p>\n<li>\n<p>A Congressional showdown over the wall that Mexico ain&#8217;t ever going to pay for, and maybe a government shutdown.<\/ul>\n<p>I bravely predict that the only bit of it that might actually happen is the shutdown, and Trump might order something blown-up in order  to change the subject.<\/p>\n<p>But America, it turns out, is far better than the preening buffoon it elected.  The press has stepped-up aggressively, and never mind that most news outlets don&#8217;t know how they&#8217;re going to cover the next electric bill.  The courts have smacked-down Trump&#8217;s oligarchical high-handedness.  The American people have marched; just this past weekend, in Chicago, more than 40,000 showed their appreciation for science and disdain for &#8216;alternative facts.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Even many evangelicals, I&#8217;ll bet, have begun to wonder if they misplaced their faith.<\/p>\n<p>So &#8230; I&#8217;m optimistic about America.
