{"id":5182,"date":"2016-11-30T14:30:32","date_gmt":"2016-11-30T19:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=5182"},"modified":"2016-11-30T14:30:32","modified_gmt":"2016-11-30T19:30:32","slug":"rebranding-evangelicalism-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=5182","title":{"rendered":"Rebranding evangelicalism &#8212; <i>again<\/i>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A piece in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/11\/29\/opinion\/the-evangelicalism-of-old-white-men-is-dead.html?ref=opinion&#038;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">today&#8217;s <i>New York Times<\/i><\/a> acknowledges the role of evangelicals in sending a nutjob to the White House and concludes &#8212; What do you know? &#8212; that the evangelical brand needs a makeover.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As the election retreats like a hurricane heading back out to sea, first responders are assessing the damage left in its wake. One casualty is the reputation of evangelicalism.<\/p>\n<p>Evangelicalism was closely associated with the campaign of Donald J. Trump, and more than 80 percent of white evangelicals voted for the president-elect.<\/p>\n<p>[ &#8230; ]<\/p>\n<p>As a result, much of the good that went by the name \u201cevangelicalism\u201d has been clouded over; now a new movement is needed to replace it.<\/p>\n<p>[ &#8230; ]<\/p>\n<p>True faith can never pledge allegiance to anything less than Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>But Jesus-centered faith needs a new name.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well &#8230; good luck with that.  Call yourselves whatever you like &#8212; it&#8217;ll still be the same pack of ignoramuses who live in a world the size of a shoebox sitting in your pews every Sunday morning.
