Now, the index is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2014\/07\/02\/poverty-increase-map_n_5548577.html\" target=\"_blank\">poverty<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><center><img src=\"http:\/\/i.huffpost.com\/gen\/1887264\/original.jpg\" width=500><\/center><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Great Recession and Not-So-Great Recovery have been bad news for most Americans, but some people have suffered more than others. We call those people \u201cSoutherners.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina and a handful of other Southern U.S. states saw the biggest increases in the number of people living in what are known as \u201cpoverty areas\u201d between 2000 and 2010, according to a new Census Bureau report<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is not an odd coincidence; it is what you get when the degradations of Christian teaching, and its anti-intellectualism, are taken seriously.
