{"id":2073,"date":"2015-09-01T09:43:47","date_gmt":"2015-09-01T13:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=2073"},"modified":"2015-09-01T09:43:47","modified_gmt":"2015-09-01T13:43:47","slug":"resetting-philosophy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=2073","title":{"rendered":"Resetting philosophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is interesting: They&#8217;re asking over at <i><a href=\"http:\/\/dailynous.com\/2015\/09\/01\/the-one-statement-to-best-restart-philosophy\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Nous<\/a><\/i> what one statement\/question\/passage from Western philosophy would you preserve if all of the rest of philosophical thought were to be removed from the earth?<\/p>\n<p>Resetting, or jump-starting, Western thought is an idea that has been around for a while; the need for that is the aim of Nietzsche&#8217;s <i>Beyond Good and Evil<\/i>, and John Dewey&#8217;s <i>Reconstruction in Philosophy<\/i>.  Rightly so, too.  Western thought is derived chiefly from Plato who, taking his cue from mathematics, taught that our world is a poor copy of a perfect, ideal world somewhere else.  Layer-on Original Sin to explain why that other world is inaccessible to us, and you&#8217;ve got Christianity.
