But this brief piece in <i>Science<\/i> seems like a worthwhile exception:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A large, first-of-its-kind study has found that <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">transgender people who reported receiving so-called conversion therapy were more than twice as likely to report having attempted suicide<\/span> as peers who had spoken to other kinds of therapists about their gender identity. For <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">those younger than 10<\/span> when they underwent attempts to <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">align their gender identity with their sex<\/span> assigned at birth, the risk of <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">attempted suicide was more than four times as great<\/span>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The difficulty arises out of the assumption that plumbing and sexuality are the same thing, and that there must be a psychological problem when they aren&#8217;t in sync.  No.  Sexual identity and plumbing are different things, hard-coded before birth and, occasionally and unhappily, they&#8217;re mismatched.
