Esper to <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">reexamine<\/span> the awarding of the military\u2019s massive cloud-computing contract because of <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">concerns that the deal would go to Amazon, officials close to the decision-making process said<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">11th-hour Oval Office intervention<\/span> comes just weeks before the winning bid was expected to be announced and has now left a major military priority up in the air, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">anonymity to discuss the closed-door process freely<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>[ &#8230; ]<\/p>\n<p>Oracle has lobbied Trump aggressively on the matter, hoping to <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">appeal to his animosity toward Amazon<\/span> as well as former defense secretary Jim Mattis, who angered the president when he resigned last year over the administration\u2019s foreign policy decisions. Oracle Executive Vice President Ken Glueck, who runs the company\u2019s policy shop in Washington, said <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">he created a colorful flow chart labeled \u201cA Conspiracy To Create A Ten Year DoD Cloud Monopoly\u201d that portrayed connections among Amazon executives, Mattis and officials from the Obama administration<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>[ &#8230; ]<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m getting tremendous complaints about the contract with the Pentagon and with Amazon. \u2026 They\u2019re saying it wasn\u2019t competitively bid,\u201d Trump said in a July 18 press gaggle. \u201cSome of the greatest companies in the world are complaining about it, having to do with Amazon and the Department of Defense, and I will be asking them to look at it very closely to see what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i><u>Would<\/u><\/i> Donald Trump force the American military to make-do with second-rate goods in order to settle a score?
