{"id":10309,"date":"2019-05-28T12:10:50","date_gmt":"2019-05-28T16:10:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=10309"},"modified":"2019-05-28T12:10:50","modified_gmt":"2019-05-28T16:10:50","slug":"shouldve-called-a-soils-engineer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bobfelton.com\/?p=10309","title":{"rendered":"Should&#8217;ve called a soils engineer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a delicious irony for you: Heavy rains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/05\/25\/us\/noahs-ark-replica-park-sues-for-rain-damage\/index.html?utm_source=Pew+Research+Center&#038;utm_campaign=894a57639b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_05_28_02_16&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_term=0_3e953b9b70-894a57639b-400679469\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">damaged access<\/a> to <i>Ark Encounter<\/i>, the colossal make-believe Noah&#8217;s Ark used by Ken Ham to fleece the gullible.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Owners of a replica of Noah&#8217;s Ark are suing their insurers, saying the companies failed to adequately cover damage to the surrounding property caused by heavy rain.<\/p>\n<p>The ark itself &#8212; a 510-foot wooden ship modeled after the biblical ark &#8212; made it through the rain just fine, a representative for Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky, told CNN. But the rainfall in 2017 and 2018 caused <SPAN style=\"BACKGROUND-COLOR: #a8f2f5\">a &#8220;significant landslide&#8221;<\/span> on the property, which undermined an access road leading to the massive wooden vessel.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the access road was unsafe to use &#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ve no idea whether <i>Ark Encounter<\/i> served as its own general contractor on the project, or if it was turned over to some design-build firm, or what, but this is a type of failure that any competent soils (or geotechnical, my specialty) engineer would have investigated prior to site design.
