“Globalizing the Culture Wars”

A new study charges that the movement in Africa toward harsher laws against homosexuality, some contemplating even the death penalty, is funded by American conservatives.

I’ve no way of checking this, but it’s believable. The hide-the-bones campaign in Kenya a few years ago, which sought to end public display of the fossil collection in the National Museum, was funded way out of proportion to the poverty of that country’s churches and thought almost universally to be funded by American money. Unfortunately, American tax laws permit religious organizations to hide their finances, with the result that the money trail is all but impossible to follow using public records.
