The U.S. State Department has set up an SMS text service for those who want updates on the progress of President Obama’s speech in Cairo tomorrow but it isn’t available to U.S. citizens.

This reminds me of the old Voice of America broadcasts on shortwave. U.S.-based shortwave radios could pick-up the transmissions, because they emanated from South Carolina, but the service was forbidden by federal law from acknowledging QSL requests from domestic addresses. I’m guessing this is some dumb analog to that dumb rule, but really don’t know; if anybody does, let me know.
