Documents filed today in connection with Colleen Hauser’s flight with her son, Daniel, in order to avoid court-ordered medical treatment.
The arrest order is grim:
Dr. Joyce was of the opinion that the cancer is again active and getting worse … Dr. Joyce testified that he suggested various oncologists that Daniel might see, but that Ms. Daya and the mother declined and indicated that they had another appointment.
I don’t know how to understand the refusal to accept the names of oncologists except as an indication that she was then resolved upon defiance — even though the x-ray showed Daniel’s condition worsening during this interregnum of herbal teas and ionized water.
This is tragedy in the authentic sense, a case of someone undone by her virtues. Hauser’s strength and defiance on her son’s behalf are admirable, but driven by nonsense — and as so often happens, an innocent, trusting bystander will pay the greater price.
